Grassroots Action on Campus: Helping Students Register to Vote
On August 27, 2025, September 10, 2025, and September 24, 2025, Indivisible Denver Action hosted grassroots Voter Registration Day at the Auraria Campus in Denver. The goal was simple but powerful: help college students register to vote, update their registration, and learn how to participate in upcoming elections.
From 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM, our team of volunteers set up a table near the library and walked the campus, handing out flyers, GoVoteColorado.com information, and IDA postcards to encourage students to engage with our local civic initiatives.
Building Democracy, One Student at a Time: Auraria Campus Recap
We were a small team—just five volunteers—but the impact was significant. In total, at least 50 students registered to vote, and many more received materials with QR codes to register on their own. Some students also signed up for our emails, helping connect young people to ongoing Indivisible Denver Action activities.
While we celebrated these successes, the days also highlighted challenges. Several students expressed that they don’t vote, a reminder that building a culture of civic participation takes ongoing engagement and encouragement. Still, considering that in Colorado many students are automatically registered when they get a driver’s license unless they opt out, the event still reached students who hadn’t yet completed the process or needed updates to their registration.
Why This Matters
This day was more than a registration drive—it was a chance to build momentum for student-led civic engagement. Whether through helping with voter registration, sharing resources, or connecting students with local action opportunities, small steps like these contribute to a stronger, more active electorate in Denver.
Takeaway: Even a handful of dedicated volunteers can make a measurable difference. Events like these remind us that student power can translate into meaningful voter turnout, and that every effort counts in building an informed, engaged democracy.
